Exclusive looking bookcase made of cheap, ikea furniture!

For a long time, the use of unique and special furniture has been my wicker parade, unlike mass-produced items in everyday DIY stores. Of course, the essence of the furnishing in this case is a trick, thanks to which, using one or more series-produced, but high-quality Swedish furniture, we can create with our own hands a specially exclusive, but by no means ordinary furnishing object.

In this example, I will show how simple such a process really is.

The goal is to produce a custom-made cabinet series of special quality, the price of which varies commercially (depending on the size) between HUF 120,000-200,000. In our case, the raw material used is the billy bookcase produced by ikea, which in itself has a rather puritanical appearance; However, no one will notice what we are starting from!

The trick that you need for magic is this:

– put the assembled bookshelves on the podium and cover it with a ready-to-buy white parquet trim, then frame the top of the furniture with the same ready-to-buy white trim (even in the ikea).

– then cover the matching of the shelves with customised wooden slats (even with a milled surface), which are treated with white satin wood paint in two layers.

– if you want an even more special look, place light sources suitable for mood lighting between the shelves, the brilliance of which can be multiplied by mirrors attached to the back of the furniture. This solution is particularly advantageous when optimizing light conditions in shaded living rooms. However, let us not lose sight of the fact that in this case not only the light doubles, but also the amount of objects placed on the shelves – so if we do not pay attention to the careful arrangement, the overall effect seems more messy than without mirrors.

After that, only our imagination can set the limit for the finalization of the unique appearance. It is a very nice solution, for example, to cover the backs of the shelves with wallpaper or colored paint, not to mention to replace the shelves with darker ones, as can be seen in my other example. Which I'll show you soon!

It's a really spectacular DIY project, and we definitely don't spend more than 35,000 HUF on the final result. (You can also buy used shelves, the total amount, then only a fraction of the above mentioned)
